My new Porter-Cable PCL120MTC-2 12v Max Cordless Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit arrived a few days ago, and I find it to be a well made tool. Its so adaptable and easy to control. I have to give the people at Porter-Cable credit where credit is due. Ive put the multi-tool through a menagerie of tests that ranged from relatively easy to fairly hard. This cordless tool did not back down once, and it just feels like it belongs in your hand.

Normally I will wait to see how a power tool performs, especially, when its a new line of tools. A lot of companies dont put enough time towards research and development, but the Porter-Cable PCL120MTC-2 was introducing the newly patented Tool-Free System accessory changer and 32-piece accessory kit. A product usually has been in development for some time when new features such as this appear. Ive never been let down by a Porter-Cable tool before, and the previews online were mostly positive. I purchased one the first chance I could.
The kit comes with everything you need to get started on most any project. The carrying bag is sturdy and holds the charger, two batteries, multi-tool, and accessory kit with room to spare. You have attachments for cutting wood, sanding, pipe cutting, removing caulk, cutting nails, and a few more for cutting sheetrock. Once in my hand, it felt well balanced and surprisingly lightweight. The 2 ½ amp motor was powerful enough, and when combined with the variable speed dial I had complete control with very little effort. I like the LED work light and the wide angle range on the Porter-Cable PCL120MTC-2. I dont remember seeing these on the competitors line. I couldnt check the competitors alongside this one; however, I immediately had this multi-tool cutting a piece of maple trim left over from a previous project. I made several radial cuts, each one tighter than the one before. I was very impressed with the smoothness and agility of this tool.
Porter-Cable PCL120MTC-2 Pros Cons
The Tool-Free System is quite simple to use and very dependable on the Porter-Cable PCL120MTC-2. I pushed firmly on the lever; while giving the attachment a wiggle from side to side. The attachment pulled out, and I slipped the new one in and let go of the lever. The heavy duty spring holds the blade firmly in place. I even sliced through a 2 X 4, and the blade did not give. Another good idea from Porter-Cable was attaching the dust bag. In some applications(cuttinng hardwoods or schedule pvc) the multi-tool makes a very fine dust. In tight spaces, this can be a real problem. The bag collects most of the dust; even so, I can think of a few precarious applications where you would want to have a dust mask on.

The only drawback, that I found, was the battery. It only lasted about 25-30 minutes. Considering its size and the fact that I was cutting things I normally would not Im really hesitant to call this a flaw. If I was using it commercially this may pose a problem, but I think thats more an issue of tool selection. The battery recharges in less than one hour and gives the Porter-Cable PCL120MTC-2 another plus, in my eyes.
I had no such problem with mine. I even did a cut out from underneath our vanity, and my battery was fine. For more information read his review at the URL above.
