The history of socks is complex and long, stretching back to the Ancient Greeks. Originally, they were made from animal skin, tying the ankles together. The Romans, on the other hand, wrapped their feet in leather or woven fabrics and eventually began sewing them together. During the 5th century AD, puttees were worn by the rich and holy and symbolized purity. The use of socks as a fashion statement continued into the twentieth century.
