In fantasy baseball and in the sport itself, the first base position is typically one of the best offensively. In 2009, 12 first basemen hit at least 30 home runs and 11 drove in 100 or more RBI. In 2010 fantasy baseball, first base is one of the deepest positions, but a few players stand out above the rest of the pack including the owners of four of the last five National League MVP awards.

5. Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers

When he first arrived in Detroit, Miguel Cabrera had an adjustment period of half a season of .840 OPS hitting. Since then, he has been an elite hitter. In 2009, Cabrera hit .324 with a .396 on-base percentage, scoring 96 runs. In the power department, he knocked out 34 home runs and drove in 103 RBI. Over the last three years, Cabrera has averaged 35 home runs and 115 RBI per season making him an excellent 2010 fantasy baseball first baseman.

4. Mark Teixeira, New York Yankees

Mark Teixeira is enjoying the launching pad that is the new Yankee Stadium and it is giving him excellent power numbers. Teixeira is typically a low-30s home run hitter, but in his first year in New York he knocked 39 out of the park, 24 of which came in home games. He drove home 122 RBI and scored 103 runs. Teixeira hit .292 in 2009 (.312 home, .272 road) and notched a .948 OPS (1.013 home, .882 road), ranking tenth in the Major Leagues.

3. Ryan Howard, Philadelphia Phillies

Ryan Howard is not the best contact hitter, but has hit 45-plus home runs and driven in 135-plus RBI in each of the last four seasons. Howard is reliable for 100 runs scored and some of the best power numbers in baseball. His average was .279 last season and is .279 for his career, but he hit .251 in 2008 and it is the weakest part of his game. Howard actually added eight stolen bases in 2009, but don't rely on that carrying into 2010.

2. Prince Fielder, Milwaukee Brewers

Prince Fielder was one of only three Major League players to top a 1.000 OPS in 2009 and he has done so twice in the last three seasons. Fielder racked up 46 home runs and a Major League leading 141 RBI. Fielder hit .299 and walked over 100 times for a .412 on-base percentage, leading to 103 runs scored. Fielder is a surefire first round draft pick and the second most valuable 2010 fantasy baseball first baseman.

1. Albert Pujols, St. Louis Cardinals

Winner of each of the last two NL MVP awards, Albert Pujols is the top 2010 fantasy baseball first baseman. Pujols led the majors with 47 home runs in 2009 to go along with 135 RBI, a position-leading 124 runs scored, a .327 average, and a ML leading 1.101 OPS. Pujols even stole 16 bases for the second time of his career. As the best all-around offensive player in baseball, Albert Pujols leads the 2010 fantasy baseball player rankings.
